Stripped Wax Bar

Smoothing out for your big day? Make sure to get waxed at least 2 days before any big event to allow any possible redness to pass.

Makeup by Denise

DO use a bronzing powder to warm your skin tone. Using a natural bristle brush, lightly apply color to the areas of the face where the sun would naturally hit: forehead, cheeks and the bridge of the nose. If needed, apply a light dusting on your neck and chest for even all-over color, but do this before you put on your dress.

Don't use a heavy pressed powder to set your foundation. Too much powder can leave your skin looking chalky and lifeless in your wedding photos.

DO use flattering neutrals to contour and highlight your eyes. For eyeliners, stick to the classics: black, navy or brown

Don't use heavy pencils or dark shadows to define your brows. This can leave you looking stern rather than stunning.

If you are planning on having your eyebrows shaped before your wedding, it’s best to avoid getting them waxed. Waxing doesn’t just remove the hair, but actually removes a majority of dead skin cells from your epidermis, the top layer of skin to which the make-up foundation used on your wedding day must stick.

It takes up to one week to fully rejuvenate your cells and by that time you will already have had hair re-growth. Instead, try a technique called “threading”. It’s far gentler on your skin than waxing and creates very clean and professional results.

There are ample local Indian salons and spas that specialize in this style of hair removal and the cost is surprisingly inexpensive at usually no more than $10 - $15 for combined Hair and Lip treatments.

Try it out a couple of months before the wedding to see how you like it and then schedule an appointment to have the wedding threading done two –three days before the big event.

What to do the Night Before & Day of...

It's the night before the big day, you've followed your bridal beauty countdown,

now what are your final steps?

The day before

Banish blemishes

Adrenaline can lead to breakouts. If this happens, DON'T PANIC: Your dermatologist can administer a cortisone injection to begin reducing a pimple's swelling and redness.

Put on polish

Get a manicure and pedicure a day ahead so nails can thoroughly dry.

NOTE: Should you nick or smudge a nail, gently even out the area with a buffer and smooth with a dot of colour.

Wash your hair

The buildup of oils overnight makes hair easier to work with the next day.

NOTE: Fine or oils hair should be washed and styled the day of to keep it from falling flat.

The day of the wedding

Just relax

Stress can show up on your skin in the form of acne or eczema.

NOTE: To help stay calm, take slow, deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.

Pace yourself

Allow ample time for hair and makeup: Three hours before is when many brides begin their hair, followed by makeup, with each taking around an hour.

NOTE: Pull on your dress only after hair, makeup, and perfume are set.

First, get a teeth cleaning, even if you're not due for one.

NOTE: Start your whitening routine. Drugstore whiteners, like strips and gels, take about three weeks to work.

Hold a beauty rehearsal

See your hairstylist and makeup artist for trial runs, with your veil and accessories.

NOTE: Take photos so you can recreate the look on your wedding day.

2 weeks before

Cut and colour

Cut your hair two weeks in advance so it won't look too blunt... Have colour touched up now as well to give it time to settle in.

The week of

Smooth skin

Make an appointment to have your eyebrows shaped and other areas, like bikini line and legs, waxed.

Pack an emergency kit

Fill a cosmetics bag with supplies:

Nail file
Dental floss
Breath mints
Bobby pins
Pressed powder
Lipstick
Concealer
Nail polish

Go for your last appointments

Tan two days ahead of the wedding for the best colour... Results last about a week if you thoroughly exfoliate before application.

6 months before

Hire a hairstylist

Audition stylists until you find one you love; ask friends and fellow brides for recommendations.

NOTE: Now's the time to try something new, like highlights, and book your appointment for your wedding day.

Schedule a makeup artist

If your hairstylist does not offer makeup, ask for their recommendations, talk to other brides, or inquire at your favourite cosmetics counter or salon.

NOTE: Request references and ask to see photos of recent work.

Clear your skin

To improve your complexion, consider monthly facials and treatments like fruit-acid peels, which refresh skin's outer layer.

NOTE: Sensitive skin? Try microdermabrasion, a form of exfoliation that uses tiny crystals.

3 months before

Target areas

Exposing your shoulders, arms, or decolletage? Do two sets of 10 to 12 push-ups every other day to define these areas.

Shape your brows

Visit a specialist (the Bombay Brow Bar experts will be onsite in the Style Lounge!), especially if you want to reshape your brows.

and the maid of honour.

At less formal weddings:

Toasting may begin once everyone has been seated and served drinks.

followed by the maid of honour
fathers or parents of the newlyweds may also take a turn

Who Raises the Bubbly?

One of the tasks you have to tick-off your wedding to-dos is assigning who will give the toasts. Today, the gesture can be performed by men and women alike!

Here's some helpful advice compliments of Martha Stewart Weddings...

The bride's father and mother

As the traditional host, the father of the bride reserves the right to kick things off. He can speak on behalf of himself and his wife, or together with his wife... topics often include: the first public congratulations to the newlyweds, welcome and thanks tot he wedding party and guests, and a reference to the union of the two families.

The groom and bride

You can your groom may toast independently, or you may wish to speak together as newly minted newlyweds. You may alternate topics - for example, he thanks the guests while you thank the wedding parties.

The best man

His main goal is to honour the couple together by reminiscing about his friendship witht he groom, recalling the first time he met the bride, or giving his impression of the impact she's had on his friend.

The maid of honour

She can be included in order to offer an additional point of view on the couple.

The groom's parents

Traditionally, these two are not expected to toast at the reception, but they may wish to do so, especially if they didn't get a chance to chime in at the rehearsal dinner.

1. Know what you want (and how much you have!)

You should have a clear vision of what your bridal style is: Do you want to be traditional, chic understated, fashion-forward, fun, quirky, or regal? You also need to know what your venue is like and have a target budget that you're comfortable with.

2. Shop with a supportive team

You shopping partners support you and have a very clear understanding about your goal and what your bridal style and budget are. They need to respect the face that this is your wedding dress and be there to offer advice only when asked.

3. Think twice before going custom

Only if you're really fashion-savvy and can truly put your trust in a designer would I suggest getting a custom dress. What the designer tells you and what the sketch shows can be very different from how the garment turns out. There are hundreds of bridal designers out there with literally thousands of designs -- you can probably find a dress that makes you happy. Customizing an existing gown, like dipping a neckline, lengthening a train, or adding cap sleeves, can be done with proper guidance from a knowledgeable bridal consultant or designer.
