Wedding Wednesday: Tip of the Week

Did you receive something sparkly under the Christmas Tree this year? Congratulations if you're a recent bride-to-be! Following this special moment comes the big announcement of your engagement...

You are likely to start with those closest to you - parents, siblings, and grandparents. If this is a second marriage for either party and there are children from the first marriage, they, and most often the former spouse, should be the first to know.

According to Martha Stewart Weddings: The most intimate and immediate way to tell your family and closet friends is by telephone, but it may not be practical to call everyone else. If you have out-of-town friends with whom you often share the details of your lives via email, then it's perfectly acceptable to announce your engagement to them this way.

Destination Nuptials

Destination weddings in Europe are all about love, romance, charm, sophistication, elegance, stunning landscapes, incredible architecture and art. Imagine your dream wedding with the historical background of a city in Tuscany, Italy or the marvellous famous blue domes in Santorini, Greece.

Sounds pretty perfect! If this is what you picture as the ideal wedding, it is not out of reach - simply give yourself plenty of time to plan (at least 8 months to a year). This allows adequate time for your family, bridal party and other guests to make travel arrangements and schedule time off work.

Check out some helpful tips for planning a European destination wedding from Real Weddings:

1. Decide on which country you would like to wed.

2. Contact a destination wedding planner to discuss your details (large group, small more intimate group, country of preference, services required, etc.).

3. Get informed about your chosen country. Your wedding planner will provide you with information about paperwork and legalities, the wedding license, and will recommend specific cities in your chosen country and the type of services they each other.

See some beautiful suggestions for your destination nuptials...

And if your want that European charm minus the travel, include that rustic, elegant flair in your wedding decor!

Even after the vows have been exchanged and last of the bubbly has been sipped there are some tasks to complete post-wedding...

Send out Thank you cards. Etiquette often says you have one year to send out thank you cards... We suggest no more than 3-6 months. If you've already selected your invitations from the dg Boutique, you can continue your design theme with your Thank-You cards. It's the perfect way to tie every last detail together! And use your coupon code: BS-Xmas to receive 20% off!

DG FAVE: This company helps new brides cross the threshold from Miss to Mrs., providing a one-stop alternative with all of the forms, instructions and personalized letters new brides need when they change their name.
... Take your gown and veil to be cleaned or have someone do it for you if you are heading on your honeymoon. Sweat stains left too long will turn yellow! Make sure the drycleaner is experienced in cleaning & preserving wedding gowns.

... Make sure all vendor bills have been paid.

DG's 12 Days of Xmas: Wedding Must Haves...

Day 11 of DG's 12 Days of Xmas... Invitations

Start the anticipation of your nuptuals with some fabulous stationary! With all the email and text messaging, the simplicity of paper invites is a nice tradition we continue to see today.

Spend some time thinking about what style of invitations you want (i.e. traditional, modern, classic, unique, or humorous). The design can often be a precursor to your wedding reception decor! Find you invitations on the dg Boutique and all your complimentary stationary needs as well. Checkoff this mandatory task AND
receive 20% off your purchase with coupon code: BS-Xmas (all one word).

There are many different options available when ordering invitations (i.e. Do-it-Yourself (DIY), Local Retail Stationer, Online and Custom Design.

DG TIP: Start collecting your guests' addresses as soon as possible as this can be one of the more challenging aspects of assembling your guest list.

DG TIP 2: Invitations are usually sent out 8-10 weeks before the wedding with the RSVP date being 2-4 weeks prior. If no Save-the-Date has been sent out, you may wish to send the invitations as early as 12 weeks prior.

4-8 months out is good time to start thinking about the type of wedding cake you would like to have. Meet with a cake maker to have a tasting, discuss details and pricing. Find some wedding cake inspiration here!

4-8 months prior, decide on the style of dresses you want your attendants to wear and give them the store/website information, colours & styles (if necessary). It's a good idea to discuss your ideas with your attendants. They may have a special request or some input they might wish to share.
