More from Vancouver's 1st Bridal Swap

DreamGroup Productions would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all of the attendees that played a pivotal part in Vancouver's first-ever Bridal Swap!

We hosted over 600 guests on Sunday -- almost three times the expected number – making it a far greater success than we could have anticipated and are very excited for the future of Bridal Swap as it continues to grow.

The next Vancouver Bridal Swap will be held this Fall at a larger venue better able to accommodate a growing number of Past Brides and guests.  We have already had several Past Brides sign up and we are encouraging anyone interested in selling their goods at the Swap to contact us.
Thank you again for your support in helping to build awareness of what is fast becoming a highly anticipated, eco savvy part of Vancouver's wedding scene.
Check out some of the fabulous photos of the Bridal Swap taken by Jeanie Ow.

Check out this video of how long the line up was to get in...this is why we will be at a bigger venue this Fall!

DreamGroup’s Wedding Wednesday: Tip of the Week

Having children at your Reception...

If you are planning to have kids at the reception, you may wish to have some activities to keep them entertained throughout the night.

DreamGroup’s Top Picks for Kids Activities:
  • Provide fun activity placemats (ask us for the kids placemat and we’ll send you a copy to use) to colour along with crayons at their place settings.
  • Arrange kids meals with the venues which vary from chicken fingers and fries to smaller portions of the regular meal being served pending the kids ages.
  • Have a special kids only table (with kids 6-12) and instead of having a fancy floral centerpiece use a basket filled to the brim with fun treats such as bubbles, stickers, stamps, skipping rope, puzzles, crosswords, games, etc. Your local loonie store is a great resource.
  • Have a special movie room set up with pillows, sleeping bags/blankets and a DVD player/TV playing Pixar/Walt Disney classics… and serving popcorn of course!
  • If there are several kids between the ages of 3-6, you may wish to have a babysitter on hand to corral the kids, play games, and keep an eye on them.
  • Even though it’s the adults that tend to get the most excited about them, Sundae Stations and Candy Stations always go over well with the kids.
  • You may wish to hire an entertainer like a magician or balloon artist to entertain kids. This is only suggested if have 15 or more kids between the ages of 3 and 10 attending the wedding.

Bridal Swap Success!

A big thanks to all those who made Vancouver's 1st Bridal Swap a big success! Heritage Hall was buzzing yesterday with brides-to-be on the hunt for some fabulous, budget-friendly, wedding day treasures. From dresses to fabrics, candles to centrepieces, and much, much more, brides had a varied selection of items to add some DIY flair to their upcoming wedding!

Brides found some unique items and inspiration to make these finds all their own. It was a fun, energy-filled atmosphere where past brides and brides-to-be connected to buy and sell pre-loved wedding day items. Past brides came with beautiful finds, and fond memories, ready to pass on their items to excited brides-to-be.

Amongst many bargains and lots of fun, brides with upcoming nuptials left with great finds, and past brides left with de-cluttered closets! With fiancées, moms or friends in tow, brides-to-be found wedding accessories, decor and even a dress while being dollar-savy and eco-friendly!

DreamGroup’s Wedding Wednesday: Tip of the Week

Collect your Traditional Items...

If you’re planning to participate in the fun and “lucky” tradition of collecting your something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue, its fun to ask close female relatives for suggestions as to what each item should be. Make sure that once you’ve fount everything, put all four items in safe place where you can find them before the wedding.

Here are a few suggestions for your traditional items from our friends at TheKnot.com:

The tradition of the bride wearing something old (for continuity), new (optimism for the future), borrowed (happiness), and blue (fidelity, good fortune, and love) on her wedding day stems from an Old English rhyme. The "something borrowed" comes from the superstition that happiness rubs off, so the bride borrowed something from a happily married woman. "Something blue" comes from the notion that the shade denotes fidelity, purity and love.

Many brides consider their dress to be their something new, but here are a few options for the other three requirements.

Something Old: A family heirloom such as your grandmother's wedding band or string of pearls; a lace handkerchief; an old hat pin secured on the inside of your gown.

Something Borrowed: A family member's or friend's headpiece or veil; a piece of your mother's jewelry.

Something Blue: Your garter; blue toenail polish; lingerie.

There's also a fifth, though often dropped, line of the rhyme: "A penny in your shoe" (or, in England, a sixpence). Each is said to help ensure a lifetime of fortune. Additional customs relating to luck include: sewing a small pouch filled with a piece of bread, a sliver of wood, a bit of cloth, or a dollar bill into the hem of a bride's petticoat to protect against future shortages of food, shelter, clothing, or money. Sewing a small horseshoe into the dress's waistband heralds good luck. Brides in Greece also believe a lump of sugar tucked into one of their wedding gloves will bring sweetness to their married life.

Interested in other traditional customs surrounding the bride on her big day? From wearing a veil to tossing the garter, check out the rest of TheKnot.com article here.

There's no place like Hycroft

Fashioned & formulated by DreamGroup's Principal Planner, Geneve McNally...

When Clara and Gary first contacted me back in November of 2009 from Hong Kong their goal was to obtain assistance in orchestrating a chic Colonial Shanghai wedding that would leave guests blown away and the hosts proud. In working with Clara over those 8 months leading up the wedding we achieved just that. Here below are 12 of my favourite images from this beautiful August wedding held at the stunning Hycroft Mansion.

Hycroft's ballroom featured dramatic Harvest tables set with teal floor length linens trimmed with custom ordered lace overlays. Custom ordered "Chinese" red cushions, white chivari chairs, and linens were from A&B Partytime Rentals.

Place settings were enhanced with a jade "love knot" favour set atop gold trimmed china charger plates and teal napkins.

Marshmallows served as the "cushions" displaying hand made aqua flag Escort Cards.

The unique handmade jewel encrusted cake was created by Thea Wilgress of Sweet Thea Cakes.

Cheerful aqua paper parasols allowed guests to stay cool and shady under the mid day sun.

The bride used a vintage children's book as her Guestbook detailing traditional Chinese wedding customs for the benefit of her Canadian guests.
